Breadcoin - A More Dignified Option for Helping the Poor
The Table Foundation is excited to announce a new partnership with Breadcoin - a Washington, DC based organization that has created physical tokens called Breadcoins as “an innovative economic tool that connects community, feeds with dignity, and supports local businesses”. Breadcoins are used in impoverished communities, including within Baltimore and Washington, where people can use them to pay for meals…at no cost to the person. Each Breadcoin is worth $2.50, and local charities and community groups (schools, churches, etc.) can purchase them from Breadcoin to give them out to those in need, allowing them to exchange them for a tasty meal from participating food vendors, including food trucks and restaurants.
Scott Borger created Breadcoin in 2015 after he and current Executive Director, Cary Umhau, thought that handing out sandwiches lacked dignity in serving meals. Since then it has grown to over 70 vendors in DC and three other states, and has been used in neighborhoods, schools, churches, and restaurants. When Fr. Leo and team were invited to consider a partnership, it just made too much “cents" as the missions of Breadcoin and The Table Foundation aligned very well to feed the hungry with dignity.
Per Breadcoin Executive Director Cary Umhau, "Breadcoin is thrilled to be collaborating with the Plating Grace and Grub Food Truck and the Table Foundation because they share our ethos of not just providing meals but inviting every single person to a Kingdom banquet where they are welcomed and their value is known and celebrated. We love it that Father Leo and his team are feeding people with first-class food and with dignity, and we're proud to partner."
By accepting Breadcoins, Plating Grace and Grub can now serve its delicious meals to a greater community and benefit from the exchange as well - helping to fund operations while serving those in need, with dignity and love!

Charity Soup for the Soul
As Plating Grace and Grub seeks to deliver dignity and charity with each meal, we know all too well that it must be done with our own gratitude for the opportunity we have to help the less fortunate and those trying to re-enter society. We thank God for His blessings, and each of you for your support, as it enables us to spread good will (and good food) to people in need. Assistant Truck Manager Sharron Coleman shares her favorite memory:
"My experience with Charity Soup has been nothing but amazing....My favorite memory was on the way to deliver soup, I saw a woman in need, so I stopped to give her soup and toiletries. She burst into tears and expressed how grateful and thankful she was, and how she wished there were more people out here like me. She brought tears to my eyes and at that moment I knew I was meant for this mission."
